I’m so very far behind in my NaNoveling, that I’ve lost sight of the fun part. I decided to get some of that back by challenging the Manitoban Elsewherians (the region I’m in is Manitoba: Elsewhere) to write the total of the last four digits of their current word count, by midnight tonight.

\nMine was 7641, so I rounded it up to 8k. Then I decided I wanted to tweak it so my total overall count would be 36k. I know we’re supposed to be at 40k by midnight tonight, but things happen. Mostly, stories get messed up or the words slow or whatever. So we keep going anyway.<\/p>\n
I’ve seen a lot of green bars already, over on the NaNo forums. Some of ’em I have to wonder about. Like, for the woman who has 186+k… has she slept since November 1st? Eaten? Taken the occasional bathroom break? I just don’t get it. I really, really don’t.<\/p>\n
The folks with less than 10k, those folks I understand. I am those folks; perhaps not this year, but I have been those folks. I remember the year I signed up, wrote exactly one day (1800-ish words) and then my world imploded and I ditched it. Thing is, I have a pattern of particpiation vs. winning NaNoWriMo, and this year it’s a winner. I’ve got 6 days left to write 14k. That’s 2333 a day. Breaking that down even further, that’s 3 30-minute word sprints averaging 775(ish) per.<\/p>\n
That doesn’t count Friday and #writeclub. I can usually hit 4k on any given Friday, and I’ve already made sure the 29th is “DO NOT BOTHER JODI DAY” by telling pretty much everyone to go away.<\/p>\n
I’ve even bought treats for the Inspirato family. Danserak (my fornit), Awen (my muse), and their children, the munits. Danserak is getting peanut butter cookies and Awen is getting Welsh Rarebit… recipes to be posted next Sunday!<\/p>\n
So, crack down this week people, get it done – you CAN<\/em><\/strong> do it!<\/p>\n ’til then..
