It’s down to the wire…

… and I still haven’t decided who to vote for. I’m a die-hard NDP supporter and I want desperately to check off the NDP spot if only to advance Layton that one small step ahead.

But… the guy running in our riding doesn’t even live here, or have any clue what goes on in the day to day that is rural life. The guy is from the city, and honestly from what I’ve seen, he suffers the same case of Perimeteritis as the rest of ’em. Not that I don’t – oh to hell with it. I don’t like Winnipeg, but that has more to do with the majority of people I’ve had to deal with than the city itself (which can be beautiful). I have reverse-Perimeteritis.

Frankly, I don’t think the rest of Portage-Lisgar gives a good godsdamn if Portage the city gets a Multiplex or not. We just don’t. Maybe if the NDP rep had been FROM the area, he or she would have some idea what goes on here. Ya know what? I didn’t even know there’d been debate about a multiplex in Portage until he kept going on and on about it. Seriously.

And on another note, I was asked by one of our lovely locals (not the same one that called me a commie in 2006, but one of his cronies) if I was going to vote for the towel-head. Yes, that is EXACTLY how he put it. In Mr. Alli’s defense, I don’t think his religion, nor his familial nationality, nor his choice in headwear (if he even does.. for pete’s sake…) has anything to do with his ability to represent the people of Portage-Lisgar. But, that’s just the way people around here think. I did tell said redneck the same, and added that it’s too bad his kid decided against joining the army after all, once it’d been decided that Canada would in fact go to Afghanistan. I did not fail to mention that I have family fighting for the democratic process, and despite my believing it’s the Conservatives playing follow the leader in Bush’s war (that HIS party agreed to, nonethefreakingless), I’m quite proud of them for doing so.

Yeah, they get on my nerves. See, this area is why I hate people. All people, equally. 😉

Back to voting…. the Green party rep is FROM the area, has experience in the area and with the major concerns (farm-related, mostly) and frankly has made more sense. BUT, he’s young and has little to no political experience. BUT, he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the issues, on a local level. And I really like the party leader, Elizabeth May. She’s like – a real person. ARGH.

Layton who on the federal level does everything I agree in (including Universal health care in private clinics.. LOL), or common sense for the local area. I feel like my head’s gonna go ‘splodey all over my keyboard.

It’s all moot, really, anyway. As my grandfather said (and I know it’s an old elections standby) – you can run a yellow dog for the Conservatives in this riding and it’d still win. This time around, it’s a woman, so I guess it’s a waiting game. I wonder how many of the PC wingnuts are biting their tongues and voting for her anyway. I actually did hear a local say he’d vote commie (I actually don’t think there is a Communist party person running this time round, but whatever) over voting for her, despite his being a paid Conservative member. Hmmm. Interesting.

There are days I wish I still did drugs. Today is one of ’em.

More after the cut for those that don’t wanna read my political blather.
