Writersphere – 13

26 November 2010 No Comment

…and welcome back to another issue of Writersphere, where I pimp not only Belfire etc. titles but also open markets, authors I adore and stuff in general. Please click through to see more… it’s a long post, but full of all kinds of things, including a movie trailer!

And of course since I said ‘pimp’ I’ll have a zillion hits looking for things that usually get pimped in dark alleys and dimly lit street corners. Which is fine, they can click through and buy a book to keep themselves busy in the meantime… ;) (hey, my gran tried to make me a lady, and gave up.. there’s just no lady here, sorry. hehehe)

Belfire & Needfire News

The website updates over at Belfire Press, are now complete, with added chatroom and forum, and by now the updates should have been tested with the other two sites. Hopefully. If not, just stop by the forum and play there for now…

We at Belfire want to again thank the folks over at May December for a wonderful review of Bob Freeman’s Descendant: A Wolfe & Crowe Investigation.

Belfire Press and Needfire Poetry are proud to present our Beside the Belfire Book Club!

About four times a year, we’ll present a title from either Belfire or Needfire, send a 15% discount code to verified members for their choice of ebook or print edition, then allow the next four weeks for purchase, shipping and reading. About half-way through, we’ll open a thread to begin discussion, and then open up for full discussion around a month from the start date.

The Kindle Me! Promotion has had a good strong start, but the odds of winning are still wondrously high! Want to win a Kindle reader? Surf on over to Belfire and read up on the requirements.

Check the website later today for a new post with more information on our 2011 line-up, new signings and a reading period clarification…

Open Fiction Markets

1) Shock Totem

Shock Totem is a bi-annual dark fantasy and horror publication. Our first issue was published in July of 2009. We focus on the one thing that matters most: the story. Back to basics. Each issue features fiction that we, as readers, enjoy. Within our pages, new and established authors are equals.

2) GUD Magazine

GUD is modern in business, method, and execution, but timeless in message. GUD is published twice a year, for your reading pleasure.

3) Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine

Why does the world need another SF magazine? Because not enough humorous SF & Fantasy gets into print. Because SF can be printed AND entertaining at the same time. Because it’s not the size of the sword, it’s where you stick it. Because too many ‘light-hearted, un-serious’ stories are rejected. Because first-time authors have a hell of a time getting into print.

Get an inside view of a dysfunctional family at their annual funeral in ‘Bloodsuckers’. In ‘Brain Souffle’, learn a yummy new recipe from a master necrotic chef. Watch as incarcerated zombies demand better living conditions in ‘Tenure,’ and finally, if you thought your cubicle was bad, get a glimpse into the workday grind of demons in ‘With Good Intentions.’

Rowan Gant is a Witch with a curse… The spirits of the dead just won’t leave him alone. Still reeling from the unsettling outcome of his most recent case with the Saint Louis police department’s Major Case Squad, Rowan once again finds himself face to face with an unearthly incarnation of evil-Miranda, the spirit of a 19th century serial killer that simply refuses to remain dead. However, this time the confrontation is by his own choice because old magick that Rowan believed he held in check is escaping its bonds, and Miranda’s legacy of torture and death has begun anew.
