NaNoWriMo Wrap-up & Dinner

1 December 2010 One Comment

Well, I think a months worth of scheduled blog-posting went pretty well, and I want to thank the folks that guested, were interviewed and reviewed over the month…and of course, everyone that commented. I’m hoping to get around to replying to comments this weekend…

NaNo was really different for me this year. After about a week and a half or so, I had to spend less time writing, but it seemed that the few moments I could steal to add to the WiP, I added more than I had been previously. I stopped updating my word count; in point of fact, I stopped looking at my word count. Hence the bright red squares in the little calendar there to the right.

The story took drastic turns here and there, and certainly isn’t the same project I started out on. Shay and Jack just will do what they will, and damn the fingers atop the keyboard. I foresee at least a years worth of edits and revisions before I even consider a beta-reader. Still though, in case anyone’s looking for a beta-project, do consider a visit to New Bedlam. Mwa. Mwaha. Mwahahaha… o_O

One thing I’ll have to consider is making this novel stand-alone, even though it’s part of a bigger series. I noticed a lot of intertwining, and while that’s good in one way, for the casual reader (HA! If I ever sell these…) it would leave them with a lot of WTF? moments.

But all in all, it was a good year. With 55 words to spare, I won NaNoWriMo 2010 – and I can have that celebratory dinner now…

Saucy Hot Teriyaki Beef & Broccoli

Sauce:
1/2 c water
1/2 c soy sauce
4 tbsp cornstarch
6 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp garlic powder
2 tsp ginger powder
1 tsp red pepper flakes

Stir-Fry:
1/2 pound flank steak, sliced thin strips
2 c broccoli florets
1/2 red pepper, sliced thin
1 can sliced mushrooms, drained

Directions:
Combine all sauce ingredients, set aside. Flash fry flank steak strips in small amount of oil. Remove from pan, and set aside. Stir fry broccoli until tender, add red pepper slices and mushrooms, return meat to pan and let cook for 3 minutes, or until heated through and peppers are softened.

Stir sauce, add to pan and bring to a boil. Stir constantly, as it will cook and thicken quickly. Serve over rice or noodles.

Congratulations to all the other winners out there – good luck with revisions and edits!

Yeah, funny how they do that to us, innit? But congrats on all the words you got down–with as much as you do, and as busy as your life is–wow. I stand in awe!
