Belfire & Needfire News

I understand that Belfire and Needfire have had some nominations at the P&E awards via Critters.org. Unfortunately, the site seems to be down, so we’re left wondering. Although most folks think the P&E awards are just fluff, I like ‘em. They’re fun. Good luck to any and all nominees!

Mike Hultquist will be on The Funky Werepig January 14th, promoting his newest title, Huffer (Graveside Tales) and his forthcoming Belfire title, Off Track. He’s giving away one print and one e-media edition of Off Track, so make sure to stop by, listen and participate in the chat!

Belfire, The New Bedlam Project and Needfire titles have some empty space in several forthcoming novels, anthologies and collections. All advertisers also receive banner space (3 different sizes to choose from) on our websites, in rotation.

Click through to Belfire for more information.

Belfire Press and Needfire Poetry are proud to present our Beside the Belfire Book Club!

The Kindle Me! Promotion has had a good strong start, but the odds of winning are still wondrously high! Want to win a Kindle reader? Surf on over to Belfire and read up on the requirements.

The New Bedlam Project and Brock Cooper have a short story in the rec-running for Stoker nomination. We’d love to have you hop over to the ‘zine and read the story… and if you’re an HWA member, please do consider recommending The Devil is in the Details for the shortlist!

From Zoe Whitten – Another push for Zombie Punter:
“I realize it will be harder to sell a book than to give one away, but one isn’t going to pay any bills. So, people who’ve read Zombie Punter, please, let me ask you once again to consider going to Smashwords and buying a copy for 0.99. One, because it’s something like a tip for the story you read. And two, because if you buy a copy you can also leave a rating or a review.”

Wonderful review for Louise Bohmer’s The Black Act:

“What truly makes this a gem—aside from creating an entirely believable and fantastical world, unique and rich—is Bohmer’s powerful voice and delivery. All of this coalesces into a tale that haunts you long after finishing it. The Black Act heralds the presence of a formidable story-teller.” –Bed Eads, writer and reviewer

Open Fiction Markets

1) Necrotic Tissue is currently open for submissions!

And you know, sometimes dark just isn’t enough…

2) For The Girls – Explicit Site for Women

Seeking flash, short fiction, confessions and non-fiction submissions. I believe I spotlighted For The Guys some time ago, which is a site geared for the men, linked from For The Girls.

3) Patchwork Path Books (Anthologies)

Haven’t seen this bunch before, but their past releases look interesting, and the themes for the upcoming openings are even more so.

Books, Books and More Books!

Expectations by Liz Borino depicts the struggle between what we desire for ourselves and our familial obligations. The struggle is personified by Chris and Matt Taylor, identical twins, who are trying to win their overbearing father’s approval and acquire their trust funds. Love, money, and desire collide as Matt and Chris decide what’s really important to them.

On Blanket of White by Amy Grech, Michael Knost had this to say: “Many times I read story collections from authors and find that all the stories are basically the same. Not here. Amy does a great job at diversifying her tales, keeping the reader interested in what he or she will find in the next story.”

Donald Patterson travels to Samhane in pursuit of a sadistic murderer and rapist. Unless Donald reaches Orchard House by midnight, his fiancee will be the star of the next torturous broadcast…. Brian Rathbone and his son are already in Samhane, hired by the mayor. Specialist exterminators, their talents have helped to deal with the ‘little problems’ that have begun to massacre the residents. But as events take a more sinister turn, Brian wonders about the true reason they are there…. Blood and carnage. Pain and suffering. Desire and sweet chaos. Welcome to Samhane.
