And here we are, Thursday morning, looking at sunny skies and feeling a warm breeze through open windows. In March. In Manitoba. Creepy!

I’ve opened up an edit space in April, and I’ll have two graphics spaces as well (covers, ads, etc.). Things went exceedingly well with another edit I had booked, and it’s completed well ahead of schedule. I did give a half-refund as well, since the edit was barely an edit at all! Sometimes ghost-editing non-fiction is a dream.

I had intended on taking the next two months for Belfire-specific works only, however grad costs are piling up rather heavily – which I’ve ranted about before – and I just don’t have those funds available unless I get some outside work in. I was talking to a friend the other night and he was amazed that we’re living on the budget we do, as it’s just under half what his rent alone is. Thank gods my grandparents lived through pretty rough times, teaching me in the process where and how to cut things out.

Am I too proud to beg for the work so I can pay for my kid to have a proper graduation and a nice (if not ‘normal’) outfit? No. I’m not. The kid does more than her fair share around here, and this is the very least I can do for her.

And it’s not just for her, either. There is a fantastic kid in her class, one who has struggled against so much (including a physically abusive teacher) and come amazingly far. B. is autistic, and is graduating with his class – but the family is in financial straights, like pretty much everyone, I guess. Care’s class decided they’d all pitch in from their own funds to help out, so we’re re-doubling our efforts.

I’m discounting the regular fee pretty heavily, as I know so many folks are in just as tight a situation as I, and there are so many freelancers out there.
