15 of 52 Weeks – We’re late, we’re late…
Technically this will be posting in week 16. Unfortunately I didn’t notice it hadn’t posted until too late to fix it.
It has been a long, hard couple of weeks here. My mom was very ill, and came very close to literally breathing her last. I think it made all of us look at our life choices and such with a little more speculation than we had been previously.
I for one am even more grateful that I kicked the habit years ago, which is something I wish my mother had done. Que sera sera…
Moving on – she’s been out of the hospital for a week, released without take-home oxygen. She was talking about letting an elderly aunt know she’d been in the hospital, and how the aunt had immediately launched into her own tale of woe and how wonderful her great-grandkids are, and how the aunt is so very self-centered. Erm, yeah. We all rolled our eyes at that, because if it ain’t happening directly to mom, she doesn’t give a flying hooters girl bra about it.
Seriously – I’ve run Belfire for 3 years, and had TNBP for a year before that. I worked Necrotic Tissue, LBF and Apex for years previous, and she still doesn’t have the foggiest idea of any of the names of those companies (even Belfire!). I can get one sentence out about anything important with the company, my work, or what-have-you, and she launches into something entirely beside the point. And yet she can tell me the smallest detail about a certain cousin’s life with his kids and wife. Who, btw, were more important than seeing her granddaughter for the first time ever, only a few short weeks ago.
Figure that out. Well, anyway… moving on.
We even took a trip into the city yesterday so she could splurge a little with her ‘cigarette savings’ (believe me, two weeks without buying cigarettes for her means a substantial boost to her funds). We’re all decked out for the wedding now, which comes along next Friday.
Yeah, you read that right. My littlest brother (who is also the tallest!) is getting married. Slightly older than I was when I did it, but oddly enough the same magistrate is performing the ceremony. Freaky! Mom actually rented the hall and has paid for the decorations and a small tea lunch for afters. After all, we’re all they’re going to have there, since Ash’s family are all…
(snip the narstynarsty comments about the bride’s family)
… so we’re just taking over and making sure she has REAL family, ’cause despite all the differences of opinion and fighting and blow-ups and all that, we all kinda like her. She’s just going to have to get used to it. <|;^) Or she can’t have any more of my lasagna. HA! (or I’ll play Milkshakes at the wedding….*snicker*) So until probably Wednesday, cuz Thursday and Friday straight through to Sunday I’ll be away – have a great one and don’t slip on the ice. <3 JL
