28 of 52 Weeks – The Breaking Point
What a fantastic week of writing I had, not to mention having all of the royalties wrapped up a week early, which I expect to get them back from the second set of eyes today, and a nice little round of editing as well.
And then…
And then the storms. It’d been threatening a bad patch for a while, with temperatures and humidity ranging into the dangerous zones. We finally got a breaker (tiny storm), followed by a whopper two days later. Tree and roof-damaging storm. I haven’t been to the garage to see if there’s more damage than what was caused in spring, but I do know the sun-room is very probably beyond repair (because the landlord didn’t see fit to put proper eaves on, the water runs under the lip of the shingles, underneath, and into the wall/window well). We’re currently weighing our options, but if we can’t find a contractor willing to work with the landlord, we’ll be moving. I’ll be making more calls today (I refuse to speak to one local contractor after having seen the utter mess made on a house years ago, one his family ended up owning because the former owner refused to pay for the shoddy work) and hopefully I’ll find someone.
Our friends and family are here or local, and despite my dislike for the majority of the townsfolk, I do like it here. But, as Cham so gently reminded me, sometimes we have to take a bigger step.
Well, anyway. Back to writing and stuff. For the Iron Writer Insane-a-thon challenge, I managed 8190 words. Not too bad, considering the computer needed to be off part of the day, we ended up with company for the entire evening, and I kept getting lost in research stuff. I raised $50 for St. Jude’s, including a ’round-it-out’ amount from me.
I’ve updated most of my word counters now, though I’ll have to wait to update the full novel one until I get Mel’s piece in. Until then, it waits.
And when I’ve not been working on edits, royalties or writing, I’ve been building a small version of Windygates in Total Miner. Just because. <|:^) I think that’s it for this week… I’ve got a lot of sorting/cleaning to do before we can have any contractor pop in for an estimate (beyond the sun-room, there’s Rhia’s closet, the bathroom, the roof, the garage roof and the basement to look at as well…). See you next week, if the rains haven’t carried us away! <3 JL
