Recipe Box – 2 Farmer Sausage Crock Pots
This week there are two recipes, mainly because I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet (when I’m writing this) which also means there won’t be a picture yet either.
Also, for one recipe regular beef sausage can be exchanged for the farmer sausage. And for those that don’t know what farmer sausage is, I pity you. It’s a rough ground, smoked sausage. If you’re lucky (like we are usually) you can find the locally produced, properly smoked and seasoned sausage that isn’t full of filler and preservative.
If you’re unlucky, you’ll find the really crappy mass-produced stuff full of nitrates and fake flavor to mask the filler and pink slime.
Yummy, I mentioned pink slime. Sorry about that. I tend to go off sometimes…
Anyway, here we go with two of our favorites!
Potato & Sausage Crock
Ingredients
8 c potatoes, cubed
1 c onion, diced
1 pkg. Farmer sausage (smoked pork sausage), sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can milk
1/2 can water
salt & pepper to taste
Directions
Layer potatoes, onions and sausage into the crock pot, season, cover with liquids and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
Veg Suggestion: Prince Edward Mix
Sweet & Sour Sausage
Ingredients
1 pkg. Farmer sausage (smoked pork sausage) OR 6 lg. beef sausages
1 med. onion, diced fine
1 can tomato soup
1/2 can water
1/2 can white vinegar
1 c br. sugar
1 tsp garlic powder
salt & pepper to taste
Directions
If you’re using Farmer sausage, cut into 6 pieces. Layer sausage and onion in the crock pot, and season.
Mix tomato soup, water, vinegar, brown sugar and garlic powder together in a bowl. Pour over sausage in crock pot, and turn on low for 6 hours. Serve over rice.
Veg Suggestion: Steamed Broccoli
’til next week, enjoy!
