The Writersphere – 8

25 October 2009 4 Comments

My apologies for the lateness of this posting. Issues arose both personally and professionally that distracted me from the blog and I promise to spank myself later. With a paddle.

Meanwhile, in the Writersphere….

It’s that time of year again, folks! Insanity ensues with writers from all over the globe putting fingers to keys, pens to paper and voice to tape all in the hopes of creating 50,000 new words towards a novel in November.

That’s right, it’s National Novel Writing Month in less than ten days.

Oh my gods, it’s actually only 6 days away and I still don’t have another plot and storyline and the characters are all screaming in my head and I don’t know what I’m going to do……

I’ll just have to sit down here and type my fingers bloody every day next month.

HARVEST HILL: 31 Tales of Halloween Horror
Edited by Michael J. Hultquist and Douglas Hutcheson

Welcome to Harvest Hill, Tennessee: a seemingly idyllic community. But within the shadows of this restful town roams a centuries-old evil that rears itself in some awful form or influence every Halloween when the veil between worlds is thinnest. We offer a choice crop of truly disturbing accounts – large and small, stretching from the 1700s into the present day – as a warning to all. If only the residents understood the unspeakable thing that has writhed and raged among them for ages, and keeps growing…

An Amorous Thing, a collection of dark fiction from Kody Boye, revolves around the theme of affection. Whether that be a killer’s desire to slice your face open or a lover’s will for you to be happy, all revolve around the twisted, oftentimes morbid theme of love. We do crazy things when we care about people–love them, hate them, kill them. Each act is done with love and with purpose.

To celebrate this collection, Kody is holding a contest for the cover art. front covers only, for now, but the selected winner will be asked to do the entire wrap.

Rumors of Rich Ristow and Scott Colbert dancing with a Jabberwocky must be true. Hand in hand in tentacle, they have produced Bandersnatch Books, a fine new press. They’re not currently seeking much by way of submissions, but you’ve gotta know, with a name like Bandersnatch and a the management of Rich and Scott – it’s gonna be one hell of an exciting ride.

Dead Bells is now closed for submissions. All submissions. Even those we weren’t open for to begin with. Seriously.

A table of contents will be announced shortly after Halloween, and definitely in the next issue of Writersphere.

Speaking of… Doc Pus has opened another Library imprint to go with Living Dead and Horror. Library of Science Fiction & Fantasy is open for business!

The New Bedlam Project is currently in fundraising mode – meaning any sales of swag, ad space or donations to the cause will result in my dying my hair in streaks. Again. I know I swore I’d never do a repeat, but what the hell. It’s only hair… Right? Visit the website for donation/purchasing information and the forum to vote on the colors that are going in.

Check out our ads, and you know what? They’re bloody cheap if you run them through Project Wonderful. 30 days at 0.02 per day? Come on, who can’t afford that! Ya’ll should give ‘em a looksee.

And that would be that, for this issue. Doesn’t seem like much, but hey…it’s enough to keep you busy for a long time!

This is me! This is me! Let’s run around screaming insanely and waving our hands in the air. And then midway through NaNo, magic will happen.

    Exactly!

I’m thinking of stocking up on incentives. Mini-bars from Cadbury, and mini-bottles from the liquor store…LOL ;)

Each finished chapter gets it’s own bottle.
