Robert Jordan – Rest in Peace

Author Robert Jordan passed away yesterday at 2:45pm from complications from cardiac amyloidosis.

Jordan, whose real name was James Oliver Rigney, Jr., also wrote under the pen names Reagan O’Neal and Jackson O’Reilly. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to being a full-time novelist, Jordan served served two tours of duty with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, and two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses. He also worked for the U.S. Navy as a nuclear engineer.

Robert Jordan is best known for the massive fantasy series, The Wheel of Time. He also wrote a number of Conan the Barbarian novels. Many Robert E. Howard enthusiasts consider Jordan’s Conan work to be among the better post-Howard stories. He also wrote the Fallon series and a western novel.

Robert Jordan is survived by his wife Harriet McDougal, who works as an editor for Tor Books, and his brother, Wilson.
