newyear

1 What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
I held my child’s adult teeth in the palm of my hand, watched the blood run from her mouth, and failed in an attempt to sue the damn hotel company. By the way, NEVER stay at the Days Inn on McPhilips Avenue in Winnipeg Manitoba. PS – not even an apology from the company or that particular franchisee. Nada.

2 Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I kept some, fell off in others and I’m working on my proper list today. I never make ‘em without thinking long and hard between Yule and the 31st.

3 Did anyone close to you give birth?
Two good friends: both Brandon Layng (baby girl) and BorgDude (baby boy borglet). Granted they didn’t do any of the pain and pushing…

4 Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.

5 What countries did you visit?
Sarcastic Perimeteritis comment withheld for safety’s sake.

6 What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A book contract, a solid job with job security, a better house, a car.

7 What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory?
July 6th, the day Rhia’s teeth were ripped from her head by an unsafe and improperly maintained waterslide. February 25th, the day we realized Pye was really well and truly missing.

8 What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my groove back after realizing why it was gone to begin with. Well, that and several print publications and award recs/noms/wins.

9 What was your biggest failure?
Not being able to sue the Days Inn nor the franchisee.

10 Did you suffer illness or injury?
Well, duh. Numerous migraines as per usual.

11 What was the best thing you bought?
The computer.

12 Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Rhia’s. My girl is amazing – disabled from birth, she struggles every day with things we all take for granted, and she does it with a smile on her face. Despite having such awful damage to her mouth and spending most of the evening and a large part of the night awake and in pain, she was up bright and early the next morning, suited up and ready to get back into the tournament.

Care just for being herself.

13 Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Besides the Days Inn people, no frickin’ comment.

14 Where did most of your money go?
The girls, life, and the computer.

15 What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting a new computer. Signing the various contracts for publication. The Stoker rec.

16 What song/album will always remind you of 2007?
“Pain” by Three Days Grace

17 Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier/Sadder: Happier
Thinner/Fatter: Fatter (I think, I didn’t weigh last year, but I’m pretty sure)
Richer/Poorer: Life-rich, Cash-poor

18 What do you wish you’d done more of?
Exercise. Writing. Time with friends.

19 What do you wish you’d done less of?
Following into places I wouldn’t go otherwise.

20 How will you be spending Christmas?
Is done, and at my mothers.

21 Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
The girls.

22 Did you fall in love in 2007?
No. And just for Donna – Love is Just a Word. hehehe

23 How many one night stands in this last year?
None. Unfortunately.

24 What was your favourite TV programme?
Blood Ties and Doctor Who and Torchwood are tying themselves up.

25 Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t hate actual physical beings anymore. I hate actions (or in-actions), I hate attitudes and I hate non-material things. Life is too short to hate. I have stopped loving some people I used to love.

26 What was the best book(s) you read?
Lisey’s Story, John Dies at the End, Heart-Shaped Box and Deathly Hallows.

27 What was your greatest musical discovery?
Northumberland Soundwave. And no, you haven’t heard of them.

28 What did you want and get?
New computer. New dishes. Books, friends, Courting Morpheus.

29 What did you want and not get?
Novel contract, and some private things. Yes, I have private things. Hard to believe, since I tell ya’ll almost everything.

30 What were your favourite films of this year?
Harry Potter-Order of the Phoenix, 1408.

31 What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I don’t remember, and 35.

32 What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Suing Days Inn.

33 How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Fashion?

34 What kept you sane?
Editing, writing what little I did write, caffeine, alcohol, circle, the girls, time with friends on and offline.

35 Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Stephen King’s brain. And a guy far too young even for me – Kyle Schmid.

36 What political issue stirred you the most?
Canada’s role in Afghanistan.

37 Who did you miss?
I missed stfu, that’s who I missed. (now I’m just being rude.)

38 Who was the best new person you met?
Seriously? The only person that was completely friendly to Glas Celli as a whole during the whole Gaia Gathering in Winnipeg – Cooki. The guy has a great sense of humor, volunteered uber-hours to sit in the hospitality room, talked up a storm, listened to me go on and on about the wonderfulness of Apex Digest and had some great stories to tell.

39 Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
Don’t judge a book by its cover. Or the cover that’s presented year after year after year – eventually, the paper wears thin and you just can’t stand the story anymore.

40 Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
Work It Harder Make It Better
Do It Faster, Makes Us Stronger
More Than Ever Hour After
Our Work Is Never Over
~Daft Punk~
