Okay, the man has passed on, however I feel the need to say happy birthday anyway. So:
Happy Birthday, A.E. VanVogt – born April 28th, 1912 in Gretna, Manitoba. Spent much of his childhood in Morden. Author of Slan, Null-A, The Mind Cage and The Silkie.
How cool is it to have grown up in a town with a major sci-fi writer in its past? Damn cool. Damn cool indeed. I wonder if the town has ever considered posting some sort of honor up for him. I mean, really…

Yeah, you should. Check with your local library and/or city government. Maybe start a petition or something. The one horse town I was born in and grew up near was home of two minor celebrities. One was a naturlist/biologist and another a tv star from the 1950′s. Among other things the city gov put up a small sign for each one at the city line saying ‘home town of whoever’ which shouldn’t cost too much to put up. I think a plaque up in the library would be a better idea for this guy. Tell ‘em you’ll bite ‘em in the arse if they don’t do it!
*nodnod* I’ve got to get my hands on my cousin. She’s the librarian in town, and she’d know what’s what…
teeheehee ebil hatchlings!
