Editorial Ass – I love it!
This, this was some seriously good snark. Thanks to Murder by 4 for the link tip. All writers should read this article, and in fact, so should all editors and agents, too.
How Important is Your Book Deal
I have had people cross my inbox/desk with proposals which have gone on to a full request – who, when they don’t like what I have to say, have threatened to, or actually gone to, my boss, Carole. Good for them, says I. It wastes her time and frustrates her, as she is so busy she doesn’t often look at the fulls and might only get to mss when we’ve accepted them. The partials go through me, I make a full request. Depending on my schedule and those of my editors, one or more of us will look over the full. Usually, two of us. I take the recommendations under consideration, and then write the author/agent.
Telling me, editor in chief of LBF Books, that I don’t have the authority to reject a novel on the merit that I am not the publisher herself – welcome to the T-file, aka Trash-file. Have a nice day!
I’m adding Editorial Ass to my rss feed.

Ugh, that would irritate the hell outta me.
You’d think that aspiring authors would appreciate feedback from a publisher or from people like yourself who work behind the lines.
Just getting a emailed response, instead of a generic generated email would make my day.
