OT – I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey…

A journey into 33 years of madness and mayhem, of a carnal carnival of delights. Today, my friends, today is the 33rd anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

If you haven’t yet seen this movie, you are either very young, or extremely – devastatingly – in desperate need of a night out. In what is one of his best performances (as far as I’m concerned) Tim Curry plays the Transylvanian Transvestite, Dr. Frank-n-furter. He plays it to the hilt, pulling out all the stops, camping for the camera like absolutely no one else could.

rhps

I was six years old when I caught a glimpse of his headshot, all made up and pretty, and I’ve never forgotten it. That sneer has been imprinted on my brain for 30 years. I think I was maybe ten when I saw part of it for the first time, but even those few minutes with Curry’s voice and years later I recognized him as the voice of Nexus in Fern Gully. I recognized his face (more so his sneer) on the Lord of Darkness in Legend.

Yummy.

Anyhoo – there were a lot of others there, too. Meatloaf, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Little Nell, Richard O’Brien and Patty Quinn. Loads of others, but those are the memorable folks. Who doesn’t love a little Riff-Raff?

One thing D. left behind when he moved to BC was his soundtrack for RHPS. I didn’t pack it up when I packed the rest of his stuff and sent it out there, probably because of the memories of driving down the back roads between here and Carman (usually at 3 AM) playing that tape and singing along… he had a great voice LOL, and from what I hear, he looked good in drag. He can have it back, if/when he ever comes back to Manitoba… maybe. Meanwhile, the girls and I will play it, sing along, and later on tonight, probably watch the movie. If we can find it… hmmm.

Damnit, Janet!

OMG! Is there anybody left in the world who hasn’t done The Time Warp at least once – I adore that movie.

I still can’t say “dammit” without adding “Janet” sometimes.

Nothing quite like dressing up (or down…), grabbing a roll of toilet paper and some toast, and heading out to the local midnight showing. Excellent post, I had no idea it was an anniversary!

Katey – it was fun… hehehe. I can’t wait until the 35th! The only reason I knew was because I’ve signed the petition against the remake, so I get updates once in a while. :)

Cate – there was a Time Warp dance-off at a con I was at. The guy that won looked suspiciously like Riff-Raff..LOL!
