Resignation of Membership to IOHP

16 April 2007 One Comment

Yesterday I emailed my ‘resignation of membership’ to Paul and Bev at International Order of Horror Professionals.

I’d been bouncing it back and forth in my head for weeks – well, if I’m to be totally honest, it was since the December break. Things added up, and what with the events of the past couple of weeks (including yesterday) I decided I needed to make a break from it. Unfortunately personal issues I have with one of the members was brought public in an attack against myself and my business. Although I’d made my decision to leave prior to being informed of this attack, it was the nail in the coffin. Rather than further dehydrate the crap, I simply told Bev and Paul that I was leaving.

The organization itself is good, don’t get me wrong. I have made a friend or two and reconnected with someone I respected a great deal (and who gave me the best advice ever, when I first came to the world of online freelancing) and now I know where to find her other works. Bev and Paul have started something that could be great. And perhaps someday in the future I’ll feel like it is once again a good place to exchange ideas and information and contacts. I wish only the best for Bev and Paul in the coming years.

That was the professional thing to do, right? Rather than drag that all through the org and muddying those waters, I simply walk away.

You know what they say about fighting with someone that has only half the wit…
