Painful Goodbyes

28 July 2007 No Comment

This week I said goodbye to a part of my career that I loved, but obviously needed to leave behind. I made some very good friends, some which are staying with me through the transition, and some that probably won’t. I haven’t had the courage to go back to the inbox to read what they’ve replied.

3Sides Literary Agency is officially closed.

There were many reasons why I made this decision, besides the obvious financial one. Despite best efforts to stay out of somebody’s crosshairs, I was right in it and a personal vendetta took a chunk out of my business that I couldn’t replace. That’s fine, as they say, Karma is a bitch. Crow pie is best served cold, and all that. I can sit and bide the time and continue to some things that I love – writing, working with the wonderful folks at Apex and Lachesis, writing some more, reading some damn fine work from all over the place and to be entirely redundant, writing.

Waiting and watching from the sidelines – and continue to tell the hard, cold, painful truth when I’m asked. That’s all I can do…well, that and a new project. ;)

A while back I was talking to Louise Bohmer about editing. She and I both freelance, and have positions with Lachesis Publishing as well. After I’d come to the final decision on 3Sides fate, I spoke to her again… and then invited she and Jeremy Seffens (also freelancing and working for Lachesis) to come along into my little venture.

Marked in Red provides professional editing services at very reasonable rates. I may even add blog help services as some folks (yes, it happens!) don’t have one and / or have no idea how to set it all up. I know we’ll be adding articles and the like to the site as well.

So, stop by Marked in Red and check us out. I can’t promise tea and cookies, but I can promise fine work.
