Free range, monsto-birds – just like the old days!
Yesterday was a busy day for my girls. It was the last day in the honey house, which means Rhia goes home tonight. Carrie will be staying on until the bee-work wraps up, and then possibly until other bits and pieces of farm-work are done. Last year, they kept her on until the end of November, so we’re hoping for that again this year. Anyway, to celebrate Rhia’s last day and feed her up before she goes home, we’re having roast chicken. …

The girls and I ventured into an uncharted territory night before last, and we threw together a zucchini lasagna – we loved it. It was a much simpler recipe than what I’m posting below; we were out of pretty much everything but the zucchini and meat sauce. Still, this is basically the same recipe as my much loved regular lasagna, only with zucchini for noodles rather than pasta.

Missed all of last week, didn’t I? Again, things have been running together, and it seems like only yesterday I was prepping for Resurrection April (a WriYe challenge), and here it is rapidly approaching August.
I vaguely remember how insane things were when my Grandfather died. Grandma died so quickly after a few years of Alzheimer’s that there was no time to feel the slow/speedy movement of the minutes, hours and days. Carrie and I LOVE Lazy Cabbage Rolls. I’ll make this recipe, and that’s what we’ll eat for the week – seriously. It stores really well in the fridge, and it’s even good cold, if the ground beef used is very lean, or it’s pre-cooked and drained before adding to the casserole.

Still on my low and no sodium recipe searches! I use the following spice mixes – well, the commercial ones, anwyay – regularly, and the sodium content in them is astronomical! So between google, cookbooks and fiddling around on my own, here’s my top four. Now if I could only find low-salt Frank’s Red Hot, I’d be a happy girl.
