The Continuing Mission…

10 October 2011 No Comment

… to seek out new life, new civilizations… to boldly go where no sane person has gone before.

21 days until Nanowrimo!

(which I will participate in, providing I have everything caught up by then)

I’m awake. I have slept between 13 and 19 hours a day, since the dentist visit! Now that I’ve weaned off the codeine and am on straight acetaminophen, I’m starting to get some clarity again. I even managed to do a bit of work yesterday while the girls were watching something… scheduled posts for two months worth of sneak peek excerpts of Belfire titles (starting with Absentminded by Voni Ryan!) and compiled all but the final Kindle numbers for Q3. Today I’ll check for those final numbers again, but I don’t think they’ll be there until the 15th. Either way, I think I can start finalizing the quarterly reports today.

I have to say, Belfire Press has the most amazing authors. As far as I know (cuz no one has emailed saying otherwise) everyone’s been really great about the lag in production and delayed editing and release dates. They’ve been so supportive and bloody awesome, I’m shamed and embarrassed that I haven’t been of much good for the last six weeks plus.

I love my authors. : )

It sounds as though the girls and I may be moving within the next two months or so. So long as the weather holds, really… Since the budget changed, I can’t afford two high heating bills, so if it goes too late in the season, it’ll have to wait until spring. Either way, in the spare moments of the meantime, Carrie and I will be preparing boxes and sorting through the mountains of crap we’ve accumulated in the last five and a half years here. Rhia’s already made good progress on her room, although I don’t think she quite gets what I mean when I say ‘throw it out or give it away if you don’t wear/use/look at something for more than six months’. Seriously.

There is still some stuff in the basement that was above the flood line, and it’s all been there since well before we had any basement issues. I’m not even sure what’s down there, other than the holiday stuff. I know there are boxes that haven’t been unpacked since we moved back into town nine years ago. Obviously – not important enough. When the trash trailer arrives, we’re tossing it all out (black mold issues, just in case).

I’m dreading going through my altar. I haven’t bought any new candles or herbs or crystals in ten years. I did dry out various herbs this year and last year, but those are gone already… and everything in that altar is probably a lot less magickal now than it was when it was first acquired. It’s going to get a thorough cleaning out as well. The crystals and candles can be cleansed and prepped for use again, but the herbs, oils and washes are going to be fully neutralized at Samhain, and properly disposed of.

Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada. I am thankful that the girls and I have all learned a lot this last year – and have grown from it. I am thankful that Rhiannon will be staying home rather than going to LA (and not cuz I don’t want her to meet Hez, but because I don’t think she fathoms just how big LA is compared to here…cuz I don’t, myself..LOL). I am thankful that Carrie’s health has improved so much in the last four months. I am thankful for our framily (family of friends), our other friends, and new/old friends as well.

I am thankful for this past year – it’s been a very good one, despite the stuff behind the scenes. In fact, I believe it’s been better for it.
