Writersphere – Contest Prompt 5-9-13

9 May 2013 2 Comments

This is a sneak peek at a contest we may or may not be running through Belfire Press. It may or may not be announced next week. It may or may not be New Bedlam-based.

I may or may not be overusing the may or may not cliche… you decide. <|;^)

Think dark alley between an arcade and an auto-parts shop. Think high school kids, out well past curfew, smoking, drinking, laughing; running from the police just to have them give chase. Think party on the high school roof, petty theft and vandalism. Think sex in the back seat, skinny-dipping at midnight, first love and first break-ups.

And then… the inevitable New Bedlam curse strikes again. Whatever that may be (authors – use your imagination!).

500-4000 words, following our regular submission guidelines at New Bedlam. There will be an entry fee of $5 per story.

Top three stories will split prize kitty 50%, 25%, 15%. Grand prize winner will be offered an opportunity to expand the winning story to long novella length for publication in print under Belfire’s standard contract.

Top ten stories will be published in the 2014 New Bedlam Project anthology, stipend to be announced asap.

Judges will be announced on the New Bedlam website at the same time as the official contest announcement.

Deadline: August 30th, 2013.

Go on… be creative!
