Freelancing Heck…

31 August 2013 One Comment

So in the past couple of weeks, it’s been a schmozzle of one thing after another. Thankfully WordPress allows scheduling of posts, or I’d have had a dead blog by now, not to mention even more angry clients (and authors at Belfire!)…

I finally have almost all of my software installed (and properly this time!) and after I don’t know how many attempts to log in to my freelance job site for the last week, I finally get on last night to find a cancellation in my inbox. I can’t blame the client, we had no way to contact each other outside of that site, and I a) haven’t been able to do that project until yesterday/today (software issues) and b) haven’t been able to tell him. Of course he’s going to be angry!

I’d be angry too, because I have been in his position myself, and never know for sure what is going on.

I explained as best I could, and will wait for word from him before I either approve the cancellation, or he retracts it. Either way, I find it strange that for a week I can’t log on there – but as soon as something drastic happens to my account, there it is. Ya know? Frustrating, and a little more than annoying. This was a big job, and one I was depending on.

When I finally managed to get the site to load and to get logged on – even before I was hit with the cancellation notice – the site pops a page up that tells me it’s going to cost more to use it. Great way of inspiring confidence in your service there, make it impossible to work, but charge more for the attempt.

I’d leave the site completely, except it’s provided a bit of work where there was none before, and the folks I’ve met through it have been great. Here’s to hoping the client understands, and my calendar stays filled… <|:^S Other than that, back to the grindstone for me, just in case! Until next time… JL
