2 of 52 Weeks – Sadness

14 January 2014 2 Comments

A really bright spark in small press has gone out. I heard yesterday that the owner/publisher of Daverana Enterprises, the publisher for the Fossil Lake Anthology, has died.

Janrae Frank and I had limited conversations, mostly centered around everyone’s ‘favorite’ nitwits. At one point a few years ago, I was the target of the week, and really down, a little freaked out about it. Janrae and Louise, both people who had survived his idiocy and come out the other side laughing, buoyed me and dragged me into the giggles over the situation.

She was one of the very first to congratulate me on the creation of Belfire Press, and was supportive and willing to give advice on both that, and my forays into self-publishing. Our occasional conversations were always short (the woman was a whirlwind, I swear to gods) but always meaningful, and I’m very glad I got to know her as well as I did, wish I could have known her better, and certainly wish I could have met her in person some day.

To her family I send my deepest condolences. Her loss will be felt most by them.

Rest gently, Janrae. You deserve the quiet and peace now.

Thank you for your condolences. I can’t fill my mother’s shoes, but I’d be happy just to know the people she did.

You’re in our hearts and thoughts, Sovay… your mom was a wonderful woman, and I was blessed to know her. I could always feel how much she loved you, every time she wrote about you. *biggest hugs* <3
