14 of 52 Weeks – End of Life, New Beginnings

Oh joy, oh bliss – Windows XP has been given the heave-ho by the powers that be, and I was literally advised to buy a new computer. Can’t run Win8? Go buy a new computer. Seriously, the tech support for one of the XP related add-on thingies actually said that. If I have that little window pop up once more, I’m gonna do some twerpy little programmer an injury.

I *just* bought a new computer (well, obviously not brand new – limited budget here!) last summer. Despite saying it’ll run better than the old one, it does not. I don’t have the RAM for whatever reason, to run even the simplest things simultaneously.

Three times the RAM has done nothing for me. Virtual memory is constantly low, and I can’t access half of my working projects. Open a folder, shut down. No, this comp does not have a virus or anything like that – it’s checked daily. For whatever reason, the memory just absolutely entirely sucks.

Until I get Belfire and New Bedlam caught up, this novel finished, and get myself less-stressed, I’m stuck with it. It’ll likely need a weekend at the tech-ex’s to fix it, if he’s got time and is willing to hear me admit I was wrong. Okay, I imagine he’d enjoy that part, so it’s just whether or not he’s got time. Also, I’d need the time…

Bah.

On the lighter side, Carrie is back to work, Rhia is busily working on stuff for college, and it’s finally spring. There is NO snow on the roof of the house as of yesterday, and the pathway is starting to melt down enough that our feet are pushing through the drift. I can not wait until the driveway has completely melted off… I miss parking on concrete instead of ice and grass.

Spring… with robins and ravens!

’til next week’s rambly minddump…
