17 of 52 Weeks – The Doldrums of Spring
I had big plans for April. Like, truly big plans. 75k into a resurrected novel project, 5k into short stories. A novel crit for a prize winner, edits for Belfire and submissions that are overflowing my inbox. Plus the massive house cleaning we’ve been trying to do all winter.
And then spring happened, in fits and starts, leaving snow, ice, rain, ice, snow, rain and ice all over the place. And Carrie went back to work. And Rhia’s moving into town. And… blah.
There’s a truck sitting in our yard, loaded with refuse for the landfill (water damage from the collapsed ceiling in the sunroom and where the water was leaking in the garage, broken stuff, etcetc.) but we can’t start it, and it’s got a flat tire. Last weekend, we were supposed to have someone come look/fix/etc. with it, but stuff happened. This Saturday, Carrie’s going to have to do something with it, because we can’t do anything else towards getting the yard cleaned up until it’s gone. And she’s gonna have to do it early, because she’s got an appointment in the afternoon and we’ve got Beltaine plans in the evening.
Even though we managed to get five bags of recycling out of the house this winter, I’ve still got an entire room PACKED with crap. See, last fall, I had a great idea. Streamline, downsize, sort all of our stuff to either give away, trash, or keep. We started, it snowed and kept snowing and snowing and then the car went wonky and…
Life. Winter. It felt like the longest winter ever, even though I know better in my head. I mean, we’re at the end of April and it’s pretty much snow free out there. 2002, we had a foot or more of snow on the ground still, at this time. We didn’t have Beltaine until the end of June, a week after Litha should have happened… and even then it was barely above zero and so wet the fire took gasoline to start.
Granted it was a beautiful big fire. *le sigh*
In case you hadn’t noticed, the last few weeks posting has been done here and there, with no real regularity. I sometimes wonder if there was even any cohesive thought holding any of them together. *le sigh #2* It’s just been… well, okay. Have you seen The Phantom Tollbooth? You must have. Hasn’t pretty much everyone seen it? I’m pretty sure that on the road to wherever in the past month, I’ve managed to get lost in the doldrums.
Anyone have a spare watchdog?
The sun is out right now, so I think I’m gonna go do something…
’til next week!
