WriYe Blogging Circle – Oh So Software!
Can you believe it’s already time for another WriYe blog post? We’re almost at mid-way, too… *gulp* I’m falling behind, but I will persevere!
This month our questions were about software, and this led me a merry chase, let me tell you. It should be pretty cut and dry, shouldn’t it? But not with me… nope. With me, it’s spread all over the cheese plate.
What do you use to write?
Everything from notebook and pen to desktop computer, but mostly my computer and either MS Word or yWriter5, depending on what project I’m working on.
Do you shift between software for different parts of writing: planning, writing, editing, etc?
Absolutely. Most of my notes are done in Notepad, though some are done in Excel. Planning is done in Word for the most part, except for a couple of projects that are sketched out in actual notebooks. For my yWriter projects, everything is in that software, except images. For some reason I haven’t been able to get that to work yet.
All of my editing is done in Word. All of it. It’s just easier that way, as I’m so used to using the track changes and comments features.
What do you use to supplement your writing? Music? TV in the background? YouTube channels?
I have WinAmp running all the time; I’ve got about five playlists, one for each project (except my current non-fiction work, that’s all pagan chanting, celtic songs and because I’m crazy, the Braveheart soundtrack). When I don’t have WinAmp going (rarely!) I have a selection of YouTube songs playlisted and saved to my channel… or I’ll load up brainwave music, I love that stuff. I do some of my best editing and writing listing to ten hour setups. <|:^) Bonus: Give us a screenshot of you mid-writing. Seriously. Pause, snap, post.
’til next month, keep writing!
