Patience and Precision: The Submitting Game
By Michele Lee; © 2009
No, I’m not talking any sort of sex game, that’s a different blog essay altogether. What I’m talking about is the long slow rinse-and-repeat of submitting your stories to magazines, anthologies and podcasts in the hopes that one or more get published.
I’m a publishing anomaly. My first submission ever was accepted and published in a magazine way back in 2003. But don’t hate me, because it took three years for me to get another yes, and today, almost six years …
…but, by the time this is posted, it’ll be Wednesday.
I’ve not been writing many blog posts lately, and in fact, I haven’t even been reading many blogs. The summer has become tedious, and my lack of consistent and well-paying jobs has been draining. I am keeping busy, but it’s low-paying or no-paying busy.
I am busy working on edits for CM, reading submissions for Dead Bells and The New Bedlam Project as well as working out details for a side project a friend and I are working on. Whether or …
Since there haven’t been any new entries for a while, I’m starting the poll just a bit early. Even though there weren’t any new entries for a while, there were over 30 in total, which have been gleaned to the 14 you see here.
Choose wisely.
I’m going to leave it running here for 21 days. The name with the most votes on August 21st wins the suggester a signed copy of Tainted.
So, have at it!

First – The New Bedlam Project is going to host its first (hopefully of many) writing contest. Details will be posted to the main site and the contest page of the ‘zine site later this afternoon.
There will be prizes. And celebrity judges…
New Bedlam – The New Bedlam Project
Second – and even bigger – the Dead Bells Anthology (Library of Horror Press) is official, and the website is live. I’m so excited I could squee. Or squee more, that is.
I admit to squeeing yesterday and today as each invited …
So, I hear I just turned 27. I do believe Mr. Hall was off just a tetch, but that’s okay, I can deal with being 27 online, so long as I don’t have to go back ten years and do it again for real. I’d do my 31st again… mwahahaha. o_O Ahem.
Anyway, Saturday was my birthday. It was a great day – I slept in, got up and did some poking around the social sites. There were a LOT of bday wishes from a LOT of people. …
So, because I’m a ninny, I forgot to post a “be back soon” post, and I’ve been gone for a bit. You didn’t miss me, either…admit it. There are a ton of us out there, blogging away… one or two missing posts isn’t enough to have people going “wait a minute..where’s the weird twit with the green hair?”
Okay, so my hair isn’t green anymore. That is a very good thing, really, considering the bright red color of my nose and cheeks could have me mistaken for a mutant Christmas tree. …
Couple of friends’ blogs sparked these thoughts.
‘Things aren’t always what they seem, or what you see.’
Bob Freeman posted an image of a blood-red moon on his blog, and in that moon I see a little girl with a decidedly evil look. Little girls always creep me out (you have to meet my girls to understand that..Care in particular) but this one…
I admit it, I see Care. When she was just barely standing on her own, she’d stand against the railing of the crib and stare at me through the …
